This article applies to cPanel clients.
Regular database backups are essential because that’s where your most important data are stored, whether it’s customer details, email addresses, product catalogs, content, or the hundreds of other types of information businesses need to function. Data that exist in one place barely exists at all. It’s a hardware failure or mistyped command away from disappearing completely. That’s a scary thought, considering business’ most valuable assets include data.
To make a backup, follow the steps below:
-
Enter cPanel and go to "Databases> phpMy Admin".
-
Click on a database or table name in the left frame, the properties will be displayed.
-
In the list of tabs found in the frame on the right, click on “Export”, you can download the structure, the data, or both. This will generate standard SQL statements that can be used to recreate the database / table.
-
You must check the box "Send" (generates a downloadable file), so that phpMyAdmin can transmit the resulting download to your station. Depending on your PHP configuration, you will see options to compress the download.
